FIBRE TO FABRIC

 

HISTORY OF CLOTHING

About 30,000 year ago, people started using animal skin for clothing. It is believed that wool was used as early as 6000 years ago. The domestication of silkworm to produce silk occurred in 3000 BC in China. In India, cotton came into widespread use around 3000 BC.

FIBRE:

Clothes are mostly made of fibre. Fibre are thin strands of threads that are twisted together to makeyarns.

Example:silk fibre, cotton fibre

FABRIC:

The fabric is stitched to make clothes.

Example:silk fabric, cotton fabric

There are two types of making fabric from yarn:

 

WEAVING:

It involves making fabric by arranging two sets of yarn. It is done using a machine called Loom that can be hand-operated or power-operated.

KNITTING:

It involves of making fabric by forming a series of connecting loops of yarn by using knitting needles or a machine.
